Mayor Rick Child announced last night at the Springville City Council that Google Fiber will be coming to Springville in 2022.
“The citizens of Springville have been requesting a “high speed” internet service option for many years,” said Mayor Rick Child, “and tonight we are happy to announce that not only are we getting “high speed” internet, but we are welcoming Google Fiber.
The approval came last night in a unanimous vote of the City Council that approved the license agreement to bring Google Fiber to Springville.
“In the past we have had other organizations offer to bring a “high speed” internet service to our community, but those offers came with a significant price tag and risk associated with the citizens’ tax dollars,” Child said. “Whenever possible we avoid placing the City at risk with agreements that require taxpayer funds upfront with no guarantee of having them paid back to the City.”
Jacob Brace, Google Fiber Government and Community Affairs Manager for Utah, said Google Fiber is looking forward to providing service to the Springville residents. Brace presented the buildout of their services to the council, which requires no cost or guarantees from Springville City. Google Fiber anticipates starting construction in the Spring of 2022 and completing the build in 2023.
Brace said, “Google Fiber is excited to add Springville, UT, a historic and arts community, to the expanding list of Wasatch Front communities we serve.”
Mayor Child said, “Our neighbors to the north, Provo, have had Google Fiber for several years and their customer and fiber service has been superior.”
“Springville and Google Fiber are looking forward to a long and beneficial relationship,” said Child.
