2019 Candidate Information

I’m running for city council because my family is from Springville and I’ve lived here all my life. I love this city. I care that it is successful, and the way a city is successful is by serving its citizens well. No other success matters if it doesn’t work to serve our citizens. Economic development and a strong business community help keep our taxes low and create local opportunities. As our children and grandchildren have families of their own, we need to be deliberate and creative in maintaining our quality of life while making sure we have places for them to live, work and recreate. Most of all, the City needs to work for and with our citizens.

My dad was a newspaper man. He ran the Springville Herald, which was eventually taken over by the Daily Herald, where I carry on the family tradition. Between a lot of encouragement from other citizens and that journalistic watchdog in me, I decided it was time to go to work for our citizens on the city council. Our lives are busy with work, kids, church, home; not many people have time to keep track of city budget details and issues. We elect people to represent us, not hide things like fee increases from us. Our city needs to be more user friendly and our elected officials should be transparent and actively engaged in keeping citizens informed, and if they aren’t going to do it, then I will! My name is Liz Crandall; I am seeking a position on the Springville City Council. I believe continued improvement of our city requires the hard work and commitment of dedicated residents.

My husband Craig and I have multigenerational Springville roots. Together we have raised three children who have all married and live in Springville. We have three incredible grandchildren which further adds to my commitment to help responsibly grow our beautiful city.

Our family has owned and operated an excavating and construction business in the Springville/Mapleton area for over 30 years. We have built and manage several properties here in Springville.

I believe in serving this community. I am currently in my 4th year serving as a member on the Springville Power Board. I have served on the Art City Days Balloon Festival Committee, coached youth soccer and softball teams, served as the president of Hobble Creek Women’s Golf Association: as well as, worked in many church, school, and community organizations.

As I have observed the dedication of many Springville friends, family members, and admired citizens, I feel it is my turn to follow in their footsteps by serving our beautiful community as a member of the Springville City Council.

My family loves Springville and we have called it “home” for more than 13 years. As a finance, investment, and risk professional I understand the complexities of Springville and the importance of financial conservatism. I also recognize the many pitfalls inherent to community growth. Effective management of the risks tied to power and water supplies, community development, cybersecurity, and financial stability is facilitated by specialized professional experience gained over 25 years.

Since I joined the City Council in 2016, we have worked together with residents to encourage positive, community-appropriate development while successfully drawing retail, manufacturing, and technology businesses. I have kept my commitments to the community and have played an important role in achieving major milestones including the opening and successful operation of the Clyde Recreation Center, the addition of power generation equipment and long-term fuel contracts, and development of a more self-sufficient city. By reviewing my voting record, you will see evidence of my unwavering commitment to balanced decision-making and determination to serve this unique and amazing community. I have also helped ensure all residents have a voice. The City is on a very positive path and my experience and collaborative approach will help us continue forward—together.

My wife, Heidi Groneman, and I have four amazing children. We are both proud Red Devils. I graduated from BYU in Public Relations and Heidi from SUU in Business Administration. My professional career has been dedicated to growing startup to mid-size ($70M) companies. My responsibilities include accounting/finance, taxes, budgeting, due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, business/growth plans, human resources and operations. I strongly believe in community.

While my children were in elementary school, I served 3 terms on the Cherry Creek Community Council. As a former member of the Springville Kiwanis Club, I served as Treasurer. I’m currently the Chairman of the Springville City Municipal Power Board, and Heidi and I completed our 6th year as Co-Chairs for Art City Days. I know that a community’s greatest strength comes from citizen involvement, transparent government, fiscal responsibility and education on issues that affect the lives of its residents. As a member of the City Council, I will focus on transparent communication, economic growth, fiscal responsibility and providing outstanding services for our community.

I believe in careful management of resources, responsibly developing public spaces, balanced business growth, and attention to the quality of life for Springville residents.

I grew up in a home devoted to public service. My father was a state senator and served on the governor’s cabinet for four Idaho governors, and my mother was an active community and church volunteer. We attended political hearings, senate debates, and actively strengthened our community. These experiences and my education have prepared me to understand public policy, governance, and the importance of community involvement.

I deeply appreciate the service so many individuals have given to make Springville an amazing place to live and raise a family. I have a vested interest in our community and its future.

As a lifelong Springville resident, I believe my experience and commitment to our community makes me uniquely qualified to serve on the city council and maintain the culture and atmosphere of Springville.

As a fifth-generation banker, I am currently the Chairman and CEO of Central Bank, on the American Bankers Association Board of Directors, Past Chair of the Utah Bankers Association and Western Independent Bankers Association. I also serve on the Intermountain Healthcare Board of Trustees.

I have always tried to give back to my community through my previous service on the Springville City Council, as the Past President of the Springville Chamber of Commerce, on the Mayor’s Downtown Economic Board, on the Springville Power Board, and in many church assignments.

People have asked me why I am running having served during the late 80’s for four years. I’m running for the city council to continue my commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, controlling the reach of government, and using our local government to sustain and improve our quality of life.

My wife Louann and I are the proud parents of three children and 10 grandchildren. In my free time I enjoy camping, hiking and working on family history.
