Springville City 2007 Candidate

Stacey R. Petersen

I love Springville!

Growing up in Utah County, I had my wedding reception in the Art Museum, my husband and I lived here as a young married couple, and then again with young children before leaving to pursue more education out of state. While out of state, we lived in Las Vegas, a large city experiencing massive growth, and we lived in a small college town in Oregon that found itself placed multiple times in the top 20 places to live. I saw examples of good and bad politics in both places. I experienced first hand, the effects of rapid growth and I saw many ways of handling the varying issues of traffic, crime, green space, utilities, etc.

I studied geography and city planning at BYU and I have always had an interest in how a city is run and how community programs are managed.  From this experience I developed a desire to use the knowledge I had obtained to apply it where I live. I would like to see Springville succeed in managing the new and future population and creating a city where growth is sustained and where families can feel safe, have adequate recreation opportunities, and where citizens can feel empowered by their government.

One of the main reasons I chose Springville to raise my family was because I was impressed with the high standards they upheld for new development; I loved the art theme, I loved the quiet, orderly streets and the parks with walking paths. I could also tell that there is an effort to keep the historical, small town feel in our downtown sector.

I would like to bring to these efforts my own expanded experience and see if we can’t help keep Springville on the right track to becoming one of the best small towns in the country.
