Chief Finlayson

Welcome to the Springville Department of Public Safety. Over 100 employees and volunteers work to keep you safe in our community. We are proud of the accomplishments and hard work our Police, Fire, Ambulance and Emergency Perparedness employees and volunteers perform each year..

The Springville Department of Public Safety has always strived to represent excellence. One way we do this is by staying one step ahead. We strive to anticipate trends so we can be proactive in all areas, and take action before we have to react to crises. We must always stay a step ahead by planning for future staffing needs, using technology wisely, and being prepared for lean budget times.

We must also always remember our most important way to stay a step ahead of public safety issues is through open communication with the community we serve. You, the community, are our best eyes and ears for what is happening in your neighborhoods, as well as helping us find ways to keep you safe. Working with you in an open and collaborative manner also holds us accountable which benefits the community most.

Help us stay a step ahead by keeping yourself informed, and letting us at the Springville Department of Public Safety know your concerns and ideas.

Help Us Help You

Each year Springville Police Department handles thousands of calls for service. In 2009 Springville Police Department responded to over 12,000 calls. This number is consistent with surrounding communities our size. Hundreds of these calls for are for “preventable” crimes. Don’t set yourself up to be a victim. The following tips can go a long way to preventing you from becoming a statistic.

  1. When away from home or even while at home Lock your Doors.

  2. Always secure yard tools and other valuables after use.

  3. Never leave an open garage unattended.

  4. Never leave your vehicle running unattended even for a few moments.

  5. Keep your vehicle locked , and valuables inside out of plain sight.

  6. Store prescription medication in a secure location since it is the target of most home burglaries.

  7. Report suspicious activity immediately. Don’t wait, and don’t warn suspicious individuals you are contacting the police. It is much easier and more effective for officers to make contact with a suspicious individual than it is to take a report and wait for a crime to occur later.

Springville Police Department is here to serve you. If you have questions or concerns please call us any time of day or night at (801) 489-9421.
