American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim
Registration for Summer 2008 Learn-to-Swim is now available at the pool.
When you sign your child up for lessons, please make note of what level you believe that they are according to this criteria:
Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water.
Basic water safety rules, swimming on front and back, using arm and leg actions using a life jacket, recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, exhaling underwater, opening eyes underwater and picking up submerged object, floating on front and back. 3 yrs. & up.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose: Give students success with fundamental skills.
Moving in the water while wearing a life jacket, recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help, submerging entire head, bobbing in water, front and back glide, jellyfish float, treading water using arm and leg motions, swimming using combined stroke on front and back. 3 yrs. & up.
Level 3: Stroke Development
Purpose: Build on fundamental skills by providing additional guided practice.
Reaching assist, kneeling or standing dive (shallow dive progression), submerging and retrieving an object, rotary breathing in horizontal position, front and back glide, survival float, back float, front and back crawl, butterfly-kick and body motion. 3yrs. & up.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement
Purpose: Develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills.
Safe diving rules, throwing assist, dive from stride position or shallow dive, feet-first surface dive, survival float, back float, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly. 5 yrs. & up.
Level 5: Stroke Refinement
Purpose: Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes.
Survival swimming, performing rescue breathing, standing dive (diving progression), tuck surface dive and pike surface dive, open turns on front and back, front flip turn and backstroke flip turn, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke. 5 yrs. & up.
Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Purpose: Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
Level 6 is designed with “menu” options. Each of these options focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training. 5 yrs. & up. These options include:Personal Water Safety - Lifeguard Readiness and Fundamentals of Diving - Fitness Swimmer
Skills Assessments will no longer be performed before the session; they will now be performed during the first 10 minutes of the 1 st day of the session that you sign up for.
Summer 2008 Sessions:
Monday through Thursday (2 weeks long)
--Eight 30 minute private/semi lessons (or) eight 40 minute group lessons
Private Lessons: $60
Semi-Private Lessons (no more than 3 students per class): $50
Group (no more than 6 students per class): $40
If a make-up day is necessary due to a conflict caused by the pool, it will be on Friday during the session. No make-ups will be provided for late or missing students from class.
Session 1: June 2-12
Session 2: June 16-26
Session 3: June 30-July 10
Session 4: July 21-31 (no lessons on July 24, make-up day will be on July 25)
Session 5: August 4-14
Lesson Times: 8:00 am (private/semi)
8:30 am (private/semi)
9:00 am (group)
9:45 am (group)
10:30 am (group)
11:15 am (group)
You will be signing up for a session and a lesson time, so please plan accordingly. We cannot give refunds for swimming lessons.
Springville Seals Swim Team:
Try-outs for Springville Seals County Swim Team will be on Friday, May 30 th @ 10 a.m. and Monday, June 2 nd @ 10 a.m. No Competing add-ins will be allowed after June 27 th.
Fees: $45/month (June and July)
Practice:
First day of Practice will be on June 3 and practices will be held on Monday-Friday 9:30-10:25a.m. & 10:30-11:25 a.m.
