34th Annual Quilt Show Open at Museum

The Springville Museum of Art, partnered with the Utah Valley Quilt Guild, is hosting the 34th Annual Quilt Show from 19 July - 2 September 2007. Outstanding creative talent is currently showcased by artists from all over Utah in what has been called “one of the Museum’s most popular exhibitions” by Museum staff.
Visitors are encouraged to come and experience the art of quilting firsthand at the Springville Museum of Art free of charge. The many quilts have been submitted and judged based on artistic expressions as well as quality. An awards ceremony and preview party was held on 18 July 2007 in celebration of the artists’ achievements. Honoring al the artists with a formal reception provided the opportunity for quilters to come together, and see the work of other artists from the state of Utah.
The two jurors of this year’s Quilt Show , Jody Jorgensen and Paula Devey McKinlay, are quilting experts and were responsible for critiquing and judging the variety of quilts. Quilts were critiqued on workmanship, design, color, originality, and general appeal. Awards such as “Best of Show” and “Director’s Award” were bestowed in the form of ribbons and cash prizes.
According to Museum worker Kyle Kemble, the Annual Quilt Show is an opportunity to celebrate the fine artistic qualities of the quilt. He says he is “pleased that the Museum gives space to the quilts, which has been so often neglected to the term ‘craft.”
Each quilt, created in many hours of labor and close observation, reflects in some cases a lifetime of work and love. Quilters are known for putting their hearts and souls into their quilts, as can be seen in the quilts on display at the Springville Museum of Art. Though many artists have been quilting for years, quilters of all levels participated in the show and were able to express themselves.
From first timer quilters to professionals, the Springville Museum of Art Quilt Show is an exquisite event, and something that every community member should experience. This age-old art form appreciated at the Springville Museum of Art celebrates the beauty of the quilt.
This exhibition would not be possible without the assistance of our many sponsors. Special thanks to the Cornwagon Quilting Company, the major sponsor of this year’s show. Additional thanks go to American Quilting, Fancy Stitches, Round Valley Quilting, Creekside Needlearts, Cherry Tree Cottage, and Morganson Custom Frames and Sew Forth. These sponsors have helped this event continue in its tradition of excellence.
