Main Street update…

Springville, Utah - At 2:30 p.m., July 28, 2006 Springville City was contacted by a UDOT representative and informed that Main Street would be opened up to two lanes of southbound traffic being re-routed from I-15. This request came about as a result of the massive traffic congestion on I-15 southbound due to highway construction on the interstate through Springville. Evidently southbound traffic on the interstate is down to one lane due to the construction.

UDOT requested that the City immediately remove the parked cars in front of the City offices and cover the recently placed concrete crosswalk at Main Street and 100 South with a steel plate in anticipation of opening up Main Street to two lanes of southbound traffic.

The City expressed their concern with plating the recently placed concrete (placed this morning) as it is likely to destroy the freshly placed concrete. UDOT stated they would pay the cost of replacing the concrete. This particular section of concrete crosswalk has already been replaced three times due to concrete failure and residents are already upset at the inconvenience of the lane being closed during the repair work. The initial concrete work done by the contractor and subcontractor failed, and was subsequently replaced and rejected two more times by the engineering firm overseeing the project.

UDOT has expressed regret for their directive, but stated that they had already contacted the concrete contractor and instructed them to steel plate the freshly placed concrete and open up both lanes southbound on Main Street as soon as possible.

Lane Restrictions for Bridge work on I-15.

From July 25 through the end of August, motorist will be restricted to two lanes along southbound I 15 from the 400 South interchange in Springville to the U.S. 6 interchange and to one lane from the U.S. 6 interchange through the Spanish Fork Main Street interchange (Exit 257).

Public meeting for I- 15 corridor design study

Springville City has initiated a study to explore the issues associated with development along I-15. Today, over 87,000 cars travel on I-15 through our City. By 2030, that number is expected to be about 165,000, almost doubling the current numbers. In an effort to understand what sizes and shapes of building best reflect the needs of our community for the long term and best reflect the standards of our City, and to determine what stakeholders see as being most compatible with their vision for the future of Springville, this study will consider styles, scales, height and massing.
