The 2006 Art City Days celebration, beginning Saturday, June 3, promises to be one to remember.
With a long list of traditional events, some new events and lots of entertainment, residents are sure to find many enjoyable activities during the week-long celebration. Art City Days begins this year with the Baby Contest, Talent Festival and Nestle Art City Days 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on June 3 and continues through the annual fireworks display at 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 10. Events will include the annual hot-air balloon festival, the City Band Concert, a concert by ’60s band The Lovin’ Spoonful, the Grand Parade and the popular 23rd Army Band Concert.
The Hobble Creek Riding Club is offering two new events: a Dutch Oven Cook-Off and a Cow Dog Exhibition/Competition, both at 9 a.m. on June 3. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Celebrate Our Journey.”
A special section with a complete list of events and stories giving details about Art City Days events is available inside today’s Springville Herald. “We hope that residents will keep this section and refer to it during the week as they plan how they will participate in the various activities,” said Christi Babbitt, Art City Days committee member in charge of publicity. “The section should prove to be a valuable resource to all.”
A long list of concerts and performances is available, including free outdoor performances at the Civic Center Park (50 S. Main) and the musical “Grease” at the Springville Playhouse (located under the Springville Public Library).
Quilts will be displayed at the Art Shop on Friday and Saturday, June 9 and 10, and a children’s parade will be held on Friday, June 9. The annual Grand Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10.
“What’s really unbelievable is the large number of exciting events that are free of charge,” Babbitt said. “Families can enjoy many fun events at no charge, as well as many others at a very low cost.”
