Pam Vaughn has been hired to serve as the City’s Library Director.
Springville, Utah - The Springville Library Board is pleased to announce that Pam Vaughn has been hired to serve as the City’s Library Director. Pam replaces Lynette Catherall who retired recently after 20 years with the City.
Jim Weber, a Library Board member who served on the search committee, said “We were very pleased with the high quality of several candidates for Library Director. We unanimously considered Pam Vaughn as the best one. She will be a real asset to our community and the Library Board looks forward to working with her.”
Pam began her career in library work by reading books to her four younger brothers in their home in Layton, Utah. She graduated from Davis High before attending college at Brigham Young University, where she took a degree in Clothing and Textiles. For the next few years she was a manager and buyer for Macy’s California in San Francisco.
After her husband graduated from law school they moved to Boise, Idaho, where Pam was a buyer for Bon Marche. She devoted herself to raising children, but also wrote a fashion column that was published in several newspapers and taught as a substitute in the public schools.
When the last of her five daughters started high school Pam enrolled in Emporia State University. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Information Technology and Library Science. She began working full time as circulation director for the Garden City (Idaho) library. She was subsequently given the responsibility of managing the entire library. During the past year she oversaw the design and organization of the library’s recently completed new home.
Pam likes the outdoors, and particularly enjoys camping, rafting, and fishing.
“Several excellent candidates applied and interviewed for the position. We are pleased to have a professional with the experience and qualifications Pam exhibits joining our staff. Replacing Lynette will be difficult, but I think the community will enjoy Pam and the strengths she will add to our excellent library staff” said City Administrator Layne Long. Director Vaughn will begin her position with Springville the end of September. In order to provide a smooth transition, current staff members John Averett and Vivian Milius have been asked to serve as interim Directors.
